While NBC Learn is a for-fee product, there are a lot of valuable free resources on the site. One of them is Writers Speak to Kids, where seven writers share their insights into the creative process. There’s also a nice section on the upcoming election (although no mention of Big Bird getting fired by Mitt Romney Wednesday night).

Interested in project based learning (PBL)? According to the Buck Institute for Education, PBL is “an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge.” The Buck Institute has a terrific set of resources in you’re contemplating PBL, including project planners, rubrics, videos and research summaries.

Power My Learning has a really nice selection of free educational games. They’re organized by content area, and then further by grade, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. Sign up for an educator account and you can create a virtual class with playlists of games for your students to use.
